The beauty of the world lies in the diversity of its people

“Cultural differences should not separate us from each other, but rather cultural diversity brings a collective strength that can benefit all of humanity”- Audre Lorde

It is hard to turn a deaf ear or a blind eye when you know you can make a difference. There are communities around Sri Lanka that vary in their needs and it is for us to decide how we can best assist them respecting their cultures and be a part of building their lives and their community.

humedica Lanka seizes the opportunity of assisting a small community of people around 125 families in Bibile which is the central part of Sri Lanka, who need assistance with their pre-school. This group of native people known as Vaddhas, live with hardly any water and no electricity. They collect bees honey, hunt in the jungle, and eat fruits and nuts. Their children are not sent to school as they must follow in the footsteps of their parents. The need for education or life skills are not a priority. One could even say that they see it as a threat.

humedica Lanka strive hard against the odds to make a difference in such communities. The District Secretary Grama Niladhari and other government officials highly support us in changing this mindset of the parents while encouraging them to keep the good traditional values of this neglected community. Such children need to be given an equal opportunity and self-respect to learn just like any other child and achieve their dreams to the highest.
